Opportunities in Doha, Qatar and Belfast, Ireland brought Dodd Assistant Professor Marni Shindelman across the globe this past March. Shindelman, recently selected for a Rauschenberg Residency Fellowship, is an assistant professor and Area Chair for Photography and Graphic Design at the Lamar Dodd School of Art.

The C-U-B-E Gallery currently features visual outcomes of an interdisciplinary workshop, unsolved: math+de-sign, a pilot program exploring intersections of math, art, and design research, with a  goal of ultimately creating a product to be used in math outreach contexts.

Janice Simon Receives First-Year Odyssey Award

Dr. Janice Simon is one of five UGA faculty to receive a 2017 First-Year Odyssey Seminar Teaching Award for her course, “Looking at Art in the Georgia Museum of Art.” Simon, a Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Associate Professor of Art History, introduces her students to the museum’s academic, research and public service missions for the university and the state through this course.

Dodd Instructor Hatidza Mulic is featured in two exhibitions: Modern Masters and ArtUnited. Included in these shows are paintings that address her personal experiences with xenophobia, sexism, and bigotry that are ever-present in the 21st century.

Dodd Printmaking and Book Arts Faculty Eileen Wallace is featured in two exhibitions. New Impressions 2017 is an international exhibit of letterpress printing at the Hamilton Wood Type & Printing Museum in Two Rivers, WI. Wallace will also be exhibited in American Fiber at the Morgan Conservatory in Cleveland, OH, where only 50 pieces out of 205 submissions were selected.

Collaborating across University of Georgia departments, Lamar Dodd School of Art students design and teach a new curriculum based on recycled wood and hands-on learning to local middle schoolers. As part of a broader sustainability initiative, the University’s Material Reuse Program salvages materials from construction and demolition sites in order to reuse them for landscape projects.

Graduate Student Alexis Spina Receives Dean’s Award

MFA candidate Alexis Spina won one of the competitive Graduate School Dean's Award, a monetary award to help cover expenses related to final research projects. The Dean’s Award Fund assists graduate students in defraying the cost of doing research toward their dissertations or theses. The fund covers the cost of collecting data or performing other aspects of research by graduate students, in this case an idea called Parking Space. Spina describes the project:

Standing Room Only is an exhibition by Eileen Wallace's Advanced Book Arts undergraduate and graduate students. Students include CC Calloway, Caty Cowsert, Jessica Denton, Jamie Diaz, Arron Foster, Erin Geagon, Johanna Norry, Selena Roth, Shelbie Sanderson, Garrison Taylor, and Luke Webster. The exhibition is on view at the Bridge Gallery, third floor of the Dodd, through April 21.

Clarke Atlanta University exhibits Professor Joseph Norman’s lithographs from his series Strange Fruit, Autumn Berlin, and Out at Home in an exhibition titled Joseph Norman: Variations of a Theme. The Clarke Atlanta University Art Museum revisits these works from their permanent collection until May 26, 2017. This grouping of his work is described by the CAU Art Museum:
