Checkout for Audio/Visual Equipment

  • Equipment

The Lupin Foundation Technology & Research Kiosk (Checkout for Audio/Visual Equipment - CAVE ) is housed in the Lamar Dodd School of Art's Main Art Building.

The CAVE will offer equipment checkout services for faculty and students during the Spring 2022 semester. We will continue to operate in a socially distanced manner, and will clean equipment upon return to prevent the spread of COVID-19. If you prefer, the CAVE staff are happy to meet via Zoom to help with using equipment, or to answer any questions you may have about available equipment.

Note to Faculty, Part-time, and Graduate professors:  

If you would like to schedule a day for your students to come by and see what the CAVE has to offer, to pick up keys for lockers, semester long check-outs, etc, please fill out the form Request Class Visit to CAVE.  


Equipment Checkout

To request equipment, students and faculty can either email the CAVE at cave@uga.edu to set up a reservation, or drop by during open hours. If outside of open hours, please make sure you confirm a pick up time with a CAVE employee via email or phone. 

Equipment Return 

The CAVE will provide you with a drop-off time to return equipment when you pick equipment up. If you need to drop-off at a different time than originally planned, please email us at cave@uga.edu to schedule a new drop-off time.  You must get confirmation of the new return time! Otherwise, the equipment will be considered late, and a prorated late fee will apply.

Equipment

Many items in the CAVE are reserved for students in a specific class or major. General use items available to all CAVE patrons include:

  • Tripods and light meters
  • 35mm film cameras
  • Digital & video cameras
  • Audio recorders
  • Speakers, headphones & wireless mic kits
  • Lighting kits
  • projectors & monitors
  • DVD & media payers
  • iPads
  • A/V Cables and Adapters

Policies

Equipment Hygiene 

Upon return, all equipment will be wiped down with disinfectant. 

Equipment is for use by School of Art students, faculty, and staff.

3 day checkouts for undergraduates:

  • checkouts on a Monday will be due back on a Thursday
  • checkouts on a Thursday will be due back on a Tuesday

4 day checkouts for grads and faculty:

  • checkouts on a Monday will be due back on a Thursday
  • checkouts on a Thursday will be due back on a Wednesday

Special exceptions will exist for specific classes--email cave@uga.edu to set up a long-term reservation for equipment. 

Patrons will be held responsible for any loss or damage of equipment.
Checkouts over $1000 require proof of insurance. Students will find affordable coverage at collegestudentinsurance.com

  • $3,000 coverage for $92 a year
  • $4,000 coverage for $106 a year
  • $5,000 coverage for $131 a year

Late Fines

A pro-rated $20 per day late fine will be applied for ALL and ANY late items beginning one hour after the scheduled return time.  

LOST ITEM FINES

Items reported lost will incur a $60 fine plus the replacement cost of the lost item. 

UNPAID FINES

Outstanding fines will result in barred access to the checkout center as well as holds placed on student transcripts and registration until the fine is paid.

The Checkout for Audio and Visual Equipment will accept cash, check, debit & credit cards.
