Professor of Drawing and Painting Joseph Norman currently has artwork on display at the University of Maryland’s David C. Driskell Center. The exhibition, The Last Ten Years: In Focus, showcases art and archive acquisitions made during the last decade to add to its expansive permanent collection of African, African American, and African Diasporic artwork. Norman’s prints and drawings are among the work of 60 influential artists from the last two centuries.

School of Art alumna Ansley West Rivers will exhibit current work from her Seven Rivers series in three gallery shows in Atlanta, GA this fall. Rivers was selected to participate in the group exhibitions Landscapes & Interventions at Hathaway Contemporary, which opens on September 23 as well as Exhibition: Airport Show opening September 22, 2017. Images from the same body of work are featured in a solo exhibition at Arnall Golden Gregory, on view through January 4, 2018.

Associate Professor Mary Hallam Pearse’s piece Feeding Desire is one of the images featured on the cover of the new book, Narrative Jewelry: Tales from the Toolbox. Narrative Jewelry showcases today’s makers, ranging from newly graduated students to the luminaries of the jewelry world, who are a broad representation of the narrative jewelry genre, designed to evoke a range of thoughts and feelings.

Dodd Drawing and Painting Instructor Hatidza Mulic has recently had three major acomplishments including receiving a TEDxUGA presenter nomination. TEDxUGA will take the stage in Spring 2018 for what promises to be its biggest and best event yet. In addition, Mulic has obtained gallery representation in New York City, NY.

This fall Siavash Tohidi and Derek Faust join the faculty of the School of Art. They bring experience as teachers and as artists with developed practices to the classroom. In the role of Art Studio Manager & Academic Professional, each will teach two courses per calendar year and dedicate the remainder of his time to managing the School’s many studio spaces and related equipment. Tohidi and Faust take on the management of all aspects of UGA’s Studio Art Facilities across four different buildings.

Congratulations to alumnus Greg Shelnutt, who joined the University of Delaware faculty as chair of the Department of Art and Design on August 1, 2017. Shelnutt graduated with his MFA from the University of Georgia’s Lamar Dodd School of Art in 1988. While at the UGA, Shelnutt’s area of focus was sculpture. He subsequently taught through the UGA Cortona study abroad program.

Dodd Alumna Meghan Moser (MFA '07 Fabric Design) is featured in Starbucks Newsroom article for creating a sleeve design which honors veterans, including her Navy SEAL father. The design is a hand block printed coffee bean in a camouflage pattern, which recognizes the 10,000 Veterans and military spouses who have been hired by Starbucks.

Growing up in a traveling military family, creating and designing was stability for Moser. She tells Starbucks:

The exhibition The Game Show at the Lyndon House Art Center includes work by Dodd Professorial Chair Paul Pfieffer and MFA candidate Kaleena Stasiak. Pfieffer contributed a video work and Stasiak created a scavenger hunt. The Game Show also includes interactive work by Esteban Patino, sculpture by Curtis Ames and Lea Purvis, paintings by Meg Aubrey and Noah McCarthy, and photographs by Nicole Jean Hill. Mike Landers used LEGOs to create wall-hangings.
