Congratulations to Dodd graduate students Arron Foster (Printmaking and Book Arts), Ariel Lockshaw (Painting and Drawing) and Amanda Scheutzow (Jewelry and Metals) who have received Outstanding Teaching Assistant Awards from the University’s Center for Teaching and Learning and the UGA Office of the Vice President for Instruction.

Congratulations to Jewelry and Metalwork seniors Camille Taylor and Yajing Yan, and graduate student Thomas Bosse (MFA 2017) for their inclusion in the 42nd Annual Juried Exhibition at the Lyndon House Arts Center in Athens. Yan received the Nancy Lukasiewicz Award, and both Taylor and Bosse received Merit Awards.

The BFA 2 exhibtion is on view Friday, April 14 through the 21st, showcasing the capstone project work of graduating BFA students in Fabric Design, Sculpture, Art X, Jewelry + Metals, and Scientific Illustration. Join the students for their exhibition opening reception Friday, April 14, 2017 from 6:00–8:00 pm in the Dodd Gallery spaces.

Knitting: See One, Do One, Teach One is on view this week, April 3 – April 7, 2017, in the C-U-B-E Gallery on second floor north (N231). The phrase ‘See One, Do One, Teach One’ is a method  derived from western medical practices which implies how one learns a procedure, then conducts the procedure, then teaches another.  Tuesday through Friday this week, fabric students will be  demonstrating the knitting process to others in the School of Art in the C-U-B-E Gallery at the following times:

Carrie Lambert-Beatty is an art historian who works on art since 1960, with special interests in performance, art and politics, and the aesthetics of deception. She is the author of the book Being Watched: Yvonne Rainer and the 1960s and the essay “Make Believe: Performance and Plausibility,” among other writings. Lambert-Beatty will deliver a public lecture on Thursday, April 6, 2017 at 5:30 pm in the S151 auditorium.

The third Dodd Dialogues lecture includes Rachel Debuque, who graduated in 2013 with an MFA in Sculpture, and Justin Plakas who graduated in 2012 with an MFA in Photography. Their multi-disciplinary background is reflected in their collaboration, PLAKOOKEE.

Art History Undergrad Erin Wiser Wins Research Award

Erin Wiser, an Art History major in her senior year of undergraduate studies, is the runner-up winner for the UGA Libraries Undergraduate Research Award. Wiser will receive an award certificate at the CURO Symposium awards ceremony at the Classic Center on Monday, April 3, 2017, in addition to a prize of $450. Since 2007, the UGA Libraries has sponsored the Undergraduate Research Awards, which provide cash prizes for excellence in research and academic inquiry.

Harshman Receives 2017 Dedicato a Cortona Award

Congratulations to Dodd Professor Melissa Harshman for receiving the 2017 Dedicato a Cortona Award. This award is given out by the Office of International Education to faculty or staff who demonstrate significant commitment and contribution to the Cortona program. “Dedicato a Cortona” translates to “Dedicated to Cortona,” which is true to Harshman as she has taught on the Cortona program eight times, most recently in summer 2016.
