The summer 2017 edition of Georgia Magazine features a story about the recent work of Professor Asen Kirin at the Georgia Museum of Art. The article highlights Kirin’s process of authenticating an Alexey Venetsianov painting from 1827 in which he collaborated with UGA's Veterinary School to have the painting x-rayed for traces of forgery.

Mono a Mano: Printmaking Maymester Exhibition

Student work from Professor Melissa Harshman’s maymester printmaking course is on display through June at the Dodd in the Suite and Plaza Galleries. The installation, Mono a Mano, exhibits monotype prints from the 14 undergraduate and graduate students involved in the course during the short May term that ran May 9–30, 2017. 

Harshman has taught at the University of Georgia since 1993 and is currently the Area Chair of Printmaking and Book Arts.

School of Art Students Create Mural in Rutledge, GA

On Saturday May 13, 2017, Lamar Dodd School of Art students completed a large public mural honoring veterans in Rutledge, GA. This project came about through an agreement with the Rutledge Garden Club. President of the club Pam Strapp initially reached out to School of Art Professor Joseph Norman. She wanted to know if he would be interested in engaging his students to create a new mural that would honor and salute veterans who have served in the military.

Opportunities in Doha, Qatar and Belfast, Ireland brought Dodd Assistant Professor Marni Shindelman across the globe this past March. Shindelman, recently selected for a Rauschenberg Residency Fellowship, is an assistant professor and Area Chair for Photography and Graphic Design at the Lamar Dodd School of Art.

The C-U-B-E Gallery currently features visual outcomes of an interdisciplinary workshop, unsolved: math+de-sign, a pilot program exploring intersections of math, art, and design research, with a  goal of ultimately creating a product to be used in math outreach contexts.

Janice Simon Receives First-Year Odyssey Award

Dr. Janice Simon is one of five UGA faculty to receive a 2017 First-Year Odyssey Seminar Teaching Award for her course, “Looking at Art in the Georgia Museum of Art.” Simon, a Josiah Meigs Distinguished Teaching Associate Professor of Art History, introduces her students to the museum’s academic, research and public service missions for the university and the state through this course.
