On February 1, the performance For You brought together music, sound, video, and installation art in an original composition in the atrium of the Lamar Dodd School of Art. For You took participants on a symbolic journey involving a 16-foot boat, a wooden pavilion, and a room of dancing shadows and projections that dealt thematically with the idea of offering and receiving.

"Off the Wall" Show by Foundations Students on View Through March 14

Off the Wall is a group exhibition by thirty first-year art students in Professor Imi Hwangbo's foundations Color and Composition classes. Working in small collaborative groups, students created large-scale drawings in black masking tape on the walls and floor of the Foundation​s Project Space in N105 of the main Dodd building. The show is on view March 2 through 14, 2017 and is open to the public.

In Conversation is a new program presented by the Dodd Galleries in which two people are paired and asked to an engage in a dialog on a proposed topic. For this spring's inaugural In Conversation event, Lamar Dodd Professorial Chair, Paul Pfeiffer, and Georgia State University Professor of Painting Craig Drennen will discuss their mutual admiration of the 1973  film The Exorcist.

Dodd Assistant Professor, Mike Calway-Fagen is a visiting artist at Auburn University in Auburn, AL this week where he will deliver a public lecture on Thursday, February 9th about his art practice. His visit is sponsored by the University's Department of Art and Art History. On Friday the 10th, Calway-Fagen will conduct studio visits with students at Auburn.

The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation has announced recipients of its prestigious residency fellowships and Assistant Professor Marni Shindelman was selected as one of ten artists, writers, and musicians from throughout the U.S. and Canada who will spend three weeks at Rauschenberg’s twenty-acre estate on Captiva Island, Florida in fall 2017.

Harshman has Solo Exhibition at Swoope Editions

Melissa Harshman was a visiting artist at Swoope Editions in Maitland, Florida on February 10th during which time she worked with Dodd alumnus Larry Cooper (MFA 2002) on an edition of forty screenprints. Harshman also has a solo exhibition at Swoope Gallery on view through March 3, 2017.

The Lamar Dodd School of Art is pleased to present Clues & Scientific Method, a group exhibition at Marcia Wood Gallery in Atlanta featuring Dodd MFA candidates working across a variety of media. Editor and artistic director of ART PAPERS Victoria Camblin, selected the artists for their research-based method of production and evidentiary qualities or approaches. “While visiting the graduate studios in Athens I noticed an investigative or diagnostic impulse in work being made in all disciplines,” says Camblin.

Asssitant Professor Demitra Thomloudis is an invited presenter at the 38th Yuma Art Symposium, held February 23–25, 2017 in Yuma, Arizona. This immersion art event hosts exhibitions, events, demonstrations and presentations given by nationally and internationally recognized emerging artists. It is one of the most eclectic educational arts forums in the country with this year’s ten invited presenters representing various discipines including metal, clay, photography, printmaking, wood, mixed media and sculpture.

Improvisation in Repeat, textile design by Sara Parker and Simon Hunt, is on view through February 24, 2017 in the C-U-B-E Gallery located on the Dodd second floor north side. The work in Improvisation in Repeat is the result of a process of deconstruction and play. The pieces each execute a concept or set of guidelines which, while agreed on in advance, require reconsideration and improvisation at every stage of creation.
