Welcome to New Studio Managers Siavash Tohidi and Derek Faust

This fall Siavash Tohidi and Derek Faust join the faculty of the School of Art. They bring experience as teachers and as artists with developed practices to the classroom. In the role of Art Studio Manager & Academic Professional, each will teach two courses per calendar year and dedicate the remainder of his time to managing the School’s many studio spaces and related equipment. Tohidi and Faust take on the management of all aspects of UGA’s Studio Art Facilities across four different buildings.

Tohidi previously taught sculpture, fabrication, and digital design at Towson University and Ohio University. In his interdisciplinary practice, he uses a variety of 2D and 3D media to represent his perception of space and place, particularly in urban settings that shape the body and its movements. He is also interested in investigating how one can make sense of place in an age of constant displacement. Tohidi earned an MFA in Sculpture and Expanded Practice from Ohio University School of Art and Design. He holds BFA and MA degrees from the University of Art in Tehran and has shown his work in national and international venues. Learn more about Tohidi’s artistic practice on his website.

Faust, an interdisciplinary artist and Georgia native, taught sculpture and design classes at Oregon College of Art and Craft and Georgia State University before coming to UGA. He is co-founder and executive director of Doppler Projects, an experimental curatorial project that takes a reactionary approach to space. Previously, he directed and curated Doppler PDX Gallery in Portland, Oregon. Faust received his MFA in Sculpture from Georgia State University and BFA from Oregon College of Art and Craft. In his work, Faust explores relationships between objects and experiences. His work has been exhibited nationally, including locations close to the School of Art such as ATHICA and Atlanta’s Low Museum, Mint Gallery, and the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA GA).
