Sondra Perry Visits the Dodd

Sondra Perry, who is visiting the Dodd this week as part of the Visiting Artist & Scholar Lecture Series, holds an MFA from Columbia University and currently lives and works in Houston, Texas. Her solo-exhibition, Resident Evil, a large multimedia installation, was on display at The Kitchen, NY in 2016 and received critical acclaim.

School of Art alumna Hong Hong was recently featured in Art21 Magazine. The article focuses on her practice in relation to a solo exhibition at Real Art Ways in Hartford, Conneticut. Hong is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice spans papermaking, sculpture, installation, and performance.

The Fellow in Photography is an ongoing program at the School of Art that provides a year of teaching and support for a recent MFA graduate. Kelley is a photographer with teaching experience who will contribute to all aspects of the photo community.

This past Spring Break, from March 6 to March 8, 2017, students and faculty from the Lamar Dodd School of Art went on a whirlwind tour of St. Louis’s burgeoning art and design scene. Alumna Susan Sherman generously funded a select group of nine students to go on three days of visits to museums and fashion spaces and meetings with artists and museum professionals in her hometown of St. Louis. Sherman graduated from the Grady College of Journalism at The University of Georgia in 1982 and now resides in St. Louis with her husband, David.

Each year, the Madison Museum of Fine Art in Madison, Georgia exhibits works by Dodd MFA students, curated by Dodd MA Art History students in the exhibition Making Masters. This year’s 9th Annual Making Masters exhibition is on view from September 23 through October 14, 2017.

Art History MA candidates and members of the Association of Graduate Art Students Cicely Hazell and Abigail Kosberg curated this exhibition. Featured are works by the following Dodd MFA students:

This year, the Lamar Dodd School of Art is hosting a scholar in residence for the first time. Dr. Ju Yeon Kim comes to the School from Seoul, Korea where she is an associate professor of Interior Architectural Design at Soongsil University. During her time in residence, she will conduct research with Dr. Jain Kwon, assistant professor of Interior Design. Kim and Kwon are investigating neuro-phenomenological approaches to affective perception in built environments. Neuro-phenomenology is a relatively new field.

Professor of Drawing and Painting Joseph Norman currently has artwork on display at the University of Maryland’s David C. Driskell Center. The exhibition, The Last Ten Years: In Focus, showcases art and archive acquisitions made during the last decade to add to its expansive permanent collection of African, African American, and African Diasporic artwork. Norman’s prints and drawings are among the work of 60 influential artists from the last two centuries.
