In 1999, both Monica Lewinsky and Brandi Chastain were the focus of a complicated national dialogue about women, gender performance and sexuality. After each respective scandal, the media shone a similar spotlight of shame and scrutiny on both women for their involvement in two very different events. The media backlash did not directly point to their "transgressive" behavior but rather discursively and sheepishly highlighted the items of clothing each woman wore - a blue dress and a black sports bra.

La Mostra: Cortona 2016

This year’s Cortona reunion exhibition, known as “La Mostra” (The Show) presents the work of Cortona faculty and students from 2016. Please join us for a reunion and closing ceremony/reception at the Lamar Dodd School of Art.  Festivities will begin at 3:00 PM on January 21st, 2017 in auditorium S151 (on first floor of Dodd).

 

Dodd Galleries Receive Generous Gift to Support Rosemary Mayer Exhibition

The Dodd Galleries received a generous gift from alumnus Carol Lascaris to travel the exhibition Rosemary Mayer: Conceptual Work & Early Fabric Sculptures, 1969–1973 to the School of Art galleries in the fall of 2017. The exhibition  traces the development of Rosemary Mayer’s work from text projects on paper to hand-dyed fabric sculptures and reproduces for the first time five process-based text pieces created by Mayer in 1969.

Contemporary African Dance Ensemble Performance at the Dodd

During the Winter Art Party Extravaganza on Friday January 27th at 7pm, the Dodd Galleries is premiering a new dance performance by CADEN:CE (Contemporary African Dance Ensemble : New Conscious Explorations). The performance piece was choreographed in response to Michi Meko's exhibition One Last Smile Before the Undertow which will open that evening. The work is an exploration of a ritual process of preparing to journey; the movers are always made aware of their temporary place in the world.
