Exhibition Opening Reception: Friday, January 27, 6-8pm

In the Fall of 2016 MFA candidate in ceramics, Yeonsoo Kim, tasked himself daily with the job of creating a new hand-built vessel or mask. The works, in accumulation act as a type of diary, or as he describes it a call "to listen to your inner voice." In Listening, Kim presents these works that explore identity and psychological conditions through the marking and making of daily life.

Art Talks: Michi Meko

Atlanta-based artist, Michi Meko will be presenting a new exhibition of work at the Galleries  that opening on January 27. In this lecture Meko will discuss his practice which as a multidisciplinary artist, draws influence from rural southern culture and contemporary urban subcultures. The works act as navigation maps and movements to convey narratives based in the personal and historic.

Keetra Dean Dixon is an artist, designer and director who has worked as an experiential design director in New York but has also run her own independent studio practice in rural Alaska focusing on lettering, sculpture, and product design projects. Her hybrid background often leads her work towards speculative terrain, leveraging both emergent technologies and process-focused, collaborative making.

Music in the Galleries: Historic Sunsets

Join us in the Galleries for a set by Historic Sunsets, an Athens-based experimental pop quartet that draws influence from freakfolk and French dreampop. Fronted by poet/multi-instrumentalist Thibault Raoult, the Sunsets feature Maria Kindt on electric viola, Jacob Sunderlin on bass, and Neil Haydon on percussion. Their debut album, Girl with Lute, 1927, was self-released in 2015. Listen here: historicsunsets.bandcamp.com/

Performance in the Galleries: The Innocents

The Dodd Galleries presents Atlanta-based contemporary music ensemble, Bent Frequency (Atlanta-based contemporary music ensemble) performing a concert  inspired by Taryn Simon's photo essay "The Innocence Project",  which examines the issue of wrongful conviction in the American penal system. Simon traveled across the US photographing and interviewing individuals who had been wrongly convicted and served time for crimes they did not commit. The individuals photographed were exonerated through DNA evidence.
