C-U-B-E will exhibit a body of work Seven Acting States design work by graphic designer and educator, James Chae. His work visualizes areas of instability in a world of constant change by synthesizing his research conducted within seven broad themes: energy, religion, gender, capital, race, debt, and technology. In his work, he encapsulates how the seven subjects affect the designer and the position the designer can take. His creative design outcomes include posters, flags, motion posters, handbooks, and leaflets that demonstrate his research and writing.

Congratulations to Dodd professor Stefanie Jackson, recently awarded the 2017 Anonymous Was A Woman prize of $25,000! Anonymous Was A Women recognizes extraordinary accomplishment in midcareer female artists through “no-strings attached” grants that encourage the recipient to continue to develop their work. The name of the grant program refers to a line in Virginia Woolf’s novel A Room of One’s Own and is supported by an anonymous group of donors and nominators.

Spring 2017 MFA alumna Amanda Scheutzow is featured in the winter 2018 issue of the University of Georgia Graduate School Magazine. La Mostra: Cortona 2017

La Mostra, or The Show is a continuation of a 48 year-old tradition exhibiting artwork produced by students and faculty during their sojourn at UGA's residential center in Cortona, Italy. Works produced by Cortona program participants during spring, summer and fall programs of 2017 will be displayed at the third floor of the Dodd Galleries. On January 20th, a reunion and closing reception will take place at the Lamar Dodd  School of Art. Reunion festivities will begin at 3:00 PM  in auditorium S151 at the Dodd.

This award-winning show, devised and performed by Marlon Andrew Burnley, is a movement based performance that attempts to explore the black experience in America.

2018 a2ru National Conference

The University of Georgia will host the 2018 national conference for the Alliance for the Arts in Research Universities November 1–3, 2018 on the theme of Arts Environments: Design, Resilience, and Sustainability. The conference will be held in partnership with the UGA Arts Council and in conjunction with next year’s University-wide Spotlight on the Arts festival.
