School of Art Welcomes New Development Officer

In January, Tai Sherman joined the School of Art as the new Development Officer. In this role, Sherman works collaboratively with the School community on regional and national alumni engagement efforts, including meeting with School alumni to learn about their current work and creative pursuits. The Development Officer is also responsible for identifying, cultivating and soliciting gift prospects and helping implement the School’s long-term and short-term fundraising goals.

The Oracle Series, a new body of work by faculty member Imi Hwangbo, will premiere at the Art on Paper Art Fair during Armory Week in New York City from March 8-11, 2018.  Her work will be shown with the Ellen Miller Gallery at Booth 303 on Pier 36 at 299 South Street.

Life is Art Panel

Translating the major you love to a career you'll love can be a challenge. At this event, a panel of Lamar Dodd alumni will join us to share information about their careers, including how they chose to incorporate the arts into their career paths and what steps they took to successfully carve their lives after graduation. Our panelists will offer practical advice to help you begin planning your future careers as well as offer vivid examples of how you can incorporate your love of the arts into your career.

Sightlines: Installations in Black Tape by Studio Core Students

Sightlines is a group exhibition by thirty-three students in Professor Imi Hwangbo’s ARST 1061 Color and Composition class, part of the studio art core curriculum. Working in collaborative groups, students created large-scale drawings in black tape on the walls of the Studio Core Project Space (N105) in the first floor north area of the main Dodd building. The show is on view through March 20 and open to the public.  

 

Namita Wiggers Lecture

In conjunction with the Crafting History exhibition  at the Georgia Museum of Art, curator and writer Namita Gupta Wiggers will deliver a talk on March 2. Wiggers is an American crafts curator, educator, and writer based in Portland, Oregon. She received a BA from Rice University and an MA in art history from the University of Chicago.

Music and Art Research Symposium

The 2018 Music & Art Research Symposium will take place on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music and Lamar Dodd School of Art. This day-long student-run symposium will include research presentations and performances related to music and/or art by graduate and advanced undergraduate students, as well as a small exhibition in the atrium on the third floor of HHSOM. The research papers and performances will be presented in four sessions:

Awards Ceremony for Scientific Illustration Juried Exhibition

Join us on March 7, 2018 for a reception and award ceremony for the 2018 Student Scientific and Medical Illustration Juried Exhibition. This exhibition includes work from UGA's Scientific Illustration program as well as the Augusta University Graduate program in Medical Illustration. Presented will be the Logan Award of Excellence in Scientific Illustration and the Strenstrom Award of Excellence in Medical Illustration.
