Abigail West, a third-year undergraduate student with an emphasis in Printmaking and Book Arts, received honorable mention from the Udall Foundation for the Udall Undergraduate Scholarship. The Udall Foundation awards scholarships to college sophomores and juniors for leadership, public service, and commitment to issues related to Native American nations and the environment. West was one of 50 students nationwide to receive honorable mention.

West currently works with the University of Georgia's Office of Sustainability as the Reclamation Intern, where she looks for opportunities to rehome, repurpose, or recycle materials that are otherwise bound for the landfill. She utilizes creative problem solving to tackle materials ranging from surplus furniture to piles of unused chalk boards to plastic film. She is also Director of the campus and community organization Bag the Bag, which is committed to changing the plastic bag habit in Athens through education, activism, and recycling.

West plans to pursue a master’s degree in fine arts and to continue to focus her work on sustainability, specifically regarding waste, consumption, and consumerism.
