Professor Gene Wright and his Figure Drawing and Anatomy class recently traveled to Canopy Studios, an aerial arts acrobatic studio, to hone their drawing skills in a new and exciting setting. Students in Figure Drawing and Anatomy drew a live model who hung from silks suspended from the ceiling. The group was an eclectic mix, ranging from scientific illustration, painting and drawing, to a Biology major and a Ph.D. Candidate.

Assistant Professor Xin Xin served as the Director and Lead Organizer for Processing Community Day (PCD), which took place in Los Angeles and 100+ participating cities in North America, South America, Asia, Africa, Europe, and Australia throughout the months of January and February 2019.

Professor Diane Edison is the 2019 Frances Niederer Artist-in-Residence at Hollins University in Roanoke, VA. Diane Edison: 2019 Frances Niederer Artist-in-Residence will be on view at the Eleanor D. Wilson Museum from Thursday, January 17, 2019, through Sunday, April 28, 2019.

Please join the Lamar Dodd School of Art at this year's Emerging Scholars Symposium, "Illustrating Love: From Myth to Manual," March 22 - 23, 2019. Current graduate students and other emerging scholars will expand the scope of the exhibition by exploring the concept of love throughout the history of visual and material culture. The keynote lecture “Art, Love and Marriage in the Italian Renaissance” will be presented by Dr. Paul Barolsky on Friday at 4:30PM in the auditorium at the Georgia Museum of Art.

PHD Candidate in Art History Megan Neely has been awarded the Willson Center Graduate Research Award for the Project Titian as Ovid: Afterlife of the Metamorphoses. The Willson Center Graduate Research Award provides support toward research‐related expenses for arts and humanities projects that are essential components of a graduate degree program. These expenses can include performances, installations, publications, contracts, conferences, lectures, or research visits. This award will be applied as a scholarship to support Neely’s research.

The Lamar Dodd School of Art is pleased to announce the 2019 MFA Exhibition to be held in two venues in Athens, Georgia: the Georgia Museum of Art on the campus of the University of Georgia and the Deupree Building, located in downtown Athens at 458 E. Clayton Street.

Visiting Artist in Ceramics: Kensuke Yamada Lecture

Ceramicist Kensuke Yamada will be visiting the Lamar Dodd School of Art from March 18, 2019 to March 19, 2019.

Yamada will present a lecture on March 18, 2019 at 2:00 PM in N104. Ongoing demonstrations will take place throughout Monday and Tuesday in the Ceramics Building.
