Music in the Galleries: Tyler Ehrlich

“Love, Marriage, and Death” is an interdisciplinary capstone recital conducted by Tyler Ehrlich, a Master’s candidate in conducting at the Hugh Hodgson School of Music. The event, held on April 5th at 5:30PM in the Atrium of the Lamar Dodd School of Art, brings twenty artists together from the University, with representation from the winds, brass, percussion, string, piano, voice, and dance areas.

The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston acquires purchased gift of a gouache painting on paper “Berlin Autumn No. 109”, of the Berlin Autumn series, from Rhode Island artist Joseph Norman, Professor of Art at University of Georgia’s Lamar Dodd School of Art. This painting joins an already stellar body of work previously acquired by the MFA, Boston through the generous gifts of patrons like Dr. Joseph Chazan, of Providence, Rhode Island, known as an indefatigable champion of Rhode Island artists and their work.

Dave McKenzie, Visiting Artist Lecture

Dave McKenzie

Dave McKenzie is a NY-based artist working primarily in performance, sculpture, and video. His conceptually driven work questions how social identities are created, and uses cultural symbols to propose new representations of the self. Mr. McKenzie was born in Kingston Jamaica, studied printmaking and then performance, and has his BFA from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.

Lamar Dodd School of Art Graduate Student, Courtney McCracken is receiving a great deal of attention for her work with the annual Georgia Sewn expo, which encourages sustainability in the fashion industry and her social project entitled Athens Free School.  

Youth Art Month Reception

Youth Art Month is a creative collaboration between Clarke County Schools (Grades K-12) and the Art Education Department at The Lamar Dodd School of Art. The event runs during the month of March highlighting school-aged artists in our community. A reception will be hosted by the classroom art teachers and the Art Education Department on March 20th from 1-3pm in the Art Education Gallery in the North wing of the 3rd floor.

Talk by Veronica Kessenich

Veronica Kessenich is the Executive Director of the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center, Atlanta's leading non-collecting instituion for contemporary art. She has worked in the arts in Atlanta for over a decade as a gallerist, educator and non-profit professional.

The 7th Annual AIGA Student Pin-Up Show was hosted by AIGA Atlanta (American Institute of Graphic Arts) on February 20, 2016 at MODA, Museum of Design Atlanta. The seven UGA graphic design students and Professor Moon Jang attended the event and exhibited their excellent school projects. In the show, there were more than two hundred participants from design and art schools in Georgia and Alabama exhibiting more than  two hundred pieces.

Dodd Graduate candidate in Painting and Drawing, Ellie Dent’s exhibition is a visual exploration of hypochondriac infatuations with illness as a means of confession, endurance, and remedy.  Her work references sites of bodily trauma; the relationship between expressing pain and eliminating pain.
