Seven of Athens’ established venues for visual art hold “Third Thursday,” an event devoted to art in the evening hours, on the third Thursday of every month. The Georgia Museum of Art, the Lamar Dodd School of Art, Lyndon House Arts Center, Glass Cube & Gallery@Hotel Indigo-Athens, Ciné, the Classic Center, and ATHICA will be open from 6 until 9 pm to showcase their visual-arts programming. After enjoying The Spotlight Opening Celebration at the Performing Arts Center, walk over to the Lamar Dodd School of Art for an After Party! We'll be celebrating 4 new exhibitions and at 9pm we present performances by Dodd Graduate student, Lambda Celsius,and Los Angeles-based composer and multi-media artist, Carolyn Pennypacker Riggs.

2018 Spotlight on Arts Scholarship Competition

This competition highlights scholarly research by UGA students about any art form or combination of art forms, including (but not restricted to): visual art, music, theatre, dance, film, literature, media arts, or performance art. The focus is on historical, theoretical, and critical research about art, as opposed to original works of art created by the students

The Lyndon House Arts Center will host their Fall Exhibitions Reception on Thursday, September 13 from 6-8 pm.

The Lounge Gallery will featured a solo exhibition, The End of a Perfect Day, with works by third-year Dodd MFA student Shawn Campbell.

How can individuals in prisons mimic honeybee behavior and work together for a common goal? Idea Lab Mini Grant recipient and MFA student Cristina Echezarreta will share progress from a collaboration of a students, faculty, and staff in Art and Entomology with the Georgia Prison Beekeeping program to explore prisoners' relationship to nature through the arts.

Marie Lorenz roots her  work in exploration and narrative. Since 2002, Lorenz has been  traveling various urban waterways in boats she designs and builds, collecting the tidal debris that accumulates in the harbor. From these floating vantage points, the artist cultivates new perspectives of otherwise familiar landscapes. Lorenz makes videos and installations that document and respond to the debris and discarded objects she encounters.

Join us for an informal talk sponsored by the new Arts Career & Entrepreneurship Space by Brit Blankenship where she’ll discuss branding and pushing yourself professionally. Brit is a Dodd Alumnus (BFA Graphic Design 2012) and designer at Matchstic in Atlanta.
