Art Minors Meetings

Art Minors Meetings

Join the Dodd Advisors in discussing the Studio Art, Design & Media and Art History minors. These meetings are not mandatory and are intended for students who have questions about the minors.

Students may choose to attend either of these meetings:

This fall, recent art history graduate Becca Gross (AB 2018) will be serving as an intern for the Publications & Marketing departments at the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) in Washington, DC. NMWA’s mission is to “champion women through the arts,” and they are the only major museum in the world dedicated exclusively to this cause.

In the arcticle The Myth of Whiteness in Classical Sculpture, staff writer Margaret Talbot shares that, "Greek and Roman statues were often painted, but assumptions about race and aesthetics have suppressed this truth.

Sponsored by the Willson Center Short Term Fellowship, Michael Kress will explore an Athens iteration of his 2014 public participation work ADORE (Yokohama, JP) while in residence at UGA. Working with students, local artists, and musicians as interlocutors— Kress will host video and conversational-photography workshops exploring how: “Pop music like Rock, Blues, Soul or Punk provides a first contact to one's own aesthetic self-definition, as a kind of a pop ID.”

Ji Yeo’s exhibition Beauty Recovery Room is on display in the Dodd Photography Area's Hardigree Hall on the second floor south wing through October 20. The show was curated by Photography Fellow Forest Kelley.

Beauty Recovery Room shows the wounded faces and bodies of women who have recently undergone plastic surgery. They show the physical cost that many Korean women bear by adhering to the social pressures of attaining beauty—specifically, a more Western look.

Current Dodd MFA student Amanda Britton, is featured in the group exhibition Spotlight on Student Fiber Trends 2018 at the Fine Arts Center in Greenville, South Carolina. Britton's work took second place in the exhibiton. The exhibition is on view through November 2.

Color the World Bright, a group lead by Dodd Professor Joseph Norman and including Dodd students, Ben Thrash, Lia Davis, Madison Gibson, Elizabeth Qardan, and student project manager Katie Eidson, recently completed the restoration of a historical mural in Madison, Georgia. This is the second "ghost sign" Norman and his students have worked on. "Not only is this tremendous outreach to the larger Georgia community, but an excellent example of conservation and restoration," say Norman.
