Marie Lorenz: Ash Heap / Landfill

Read more about Marie Lorenz: Ash Heap / Landfill

In Ash Heap / Landfill, New York based artist Marie Lorenz creates a gallery-sized landslide made of unfired clay, burying in the mud her fired ceramic trash. Lorenz’s installation, made specifically for the Dodd Galleries, considers scale and refuse: “Something that I have always liked about sandy beaches, ravines, gorges, creek beds, basically any sediment shaped by water, is the confusion of scale,” explains Lorenz.

Stephanie Sutton presents new work from her ongoing investigation of subjectivity and its relationship to the lens. Centrally depicted in Music Videos, reflective surfaces are employed as surrogates for human companionship. The distance between performer and their mirrored image becomes distorted as they respond to scrutiny and flirtation, ultimately revealing the isolation of an exchange that attempts to attract connection.  On view until August 30th.

MIDDLEGROUND

Read more about MIDDLEGROUND

MIDDLEGROUND is a question, largely unresolved: a survey of living stretched across material and digital space. Today, we exist within a reality that we are both humans composed of flesh and bones as well as avatars constructed from collections of data, constantly shifting between the two. What happens in this area of rapid transferral of one’s self? MIDDLEGROUND serves as a map to this space between spaces. Each image and object an artifact from a created third reality: a collection of things lost and found in the seam.
