Change, Exchange, Interchange

Read more about Change, Exchange, Interchange

At the center of the portfolio exchange is the communal nature of printmaking, and the democratic facilities of the print and its most common structural substrate, paper. In this exhibition, four graduate students from the Dodd experiment with the format of the portfolio exchange to create works that expand the print tradition, speaking  to the importance of the sharing of information, and the need for time and space to process gained knowledge.

The Florida Room

Read more about The Florida Room

The Florida Room presents a series of works from Dodd Graduate Students hailing from the sunshine state. From the kitschy tourist views of flamingos and palm trees to the eerie mangroves and swamps of the Everglades, these artists deal with the tension between the natural and the artificial as it exists in Florida’s rapidly changing landscape. The exhibition is curated by Dodd Graduate student Cristina Echezarreta and features the work of Nick Abrami, Dimelza Broche, Cristina Echezarreta, Paula Runyon, and Taylor Shaw.

Mark Dion Lecture

Mark Dion’s work examines the ways in which dominant ideologies and public institutions shape our understanding of history, knowledge, and the natural world.  Appropriating archaeological, field ecology and other scientific methods of collecting, ordering, and exhibiting objects, Dion creates works that question the distinctions between ‘objective’ (‘rational’) scientific methods and ‘subjective’ (‘irrational’) influences.

Jorie Berman presents a new series of ceramic works inspired by ocean life, specifically coral and sea jellies, which were fired in the anagama kiln at the Hambidge Center in Rabun Gap, Georgia. A group of dedicated artists gather together twice a year to glaze their work, stack the kiln, and stoke the fire for over 40 hours in order to achieve the wood-fired surface offered by this ancient Japanese firing process.
