Assistant Professor Benjamin Britton has a Solo Exhibition at the Albany Museum of Art in Albany, Georgia. Britton’s This Unfolding Idyll is now on view in the West Gallery of the Albany Museum of Art through February 23rd.

Erin Riggins, an Art History graduate student, was awarded a 2018 travel grant to conduct research for her Master’s thesis. The funds allowed Riggins to travel to Marfa, TX in summer 2018 to study Ilya Kabakov’s School No. 6 installation at the Chinati Foundation.

Third Thursday

Seven of Athens’ established venues for visual art hold “Third Thursday,” an event devoted to art in the evening hours, on the third Thursday of every month. The Georgia Museum of Art, the Lamar Dodd School of Art, Lyndon House Arts Center, Glass Cube & Gallery@Hotel Indigo-Athens, Ciné, the Classic Center, and ATHICA will be open from 6 until 9 pm to showcase their visual-arts programming. The Oxford American , a Magazine of the South, publishes a weekly series titled “Eyes on the South” which features selections of current work from Southern artists and artists whose photography concerns the South. On December 4th, Lamar Dodd School of Art MFA Candidate Matthew J. Brown was featured in the weekly series for his project New Developments.

The Lamar Dodd School of Art held it’s BFA Exhibition Reception EXTRA! EXTRA!  on Friday, December 7, from 6-8 pm, to celebrate the work of the students graduating this December. The sudents in this exhibion chose to vary from the traditional format of dividng the show by area of emphasis, and instead showed all disciplines as one integrated group. The Exhibiton Reception drew a large crowd, with an estimated 300 people in attendance.

Emily DuVall, current Art History graduate student, has received the Janelle Padgett Knight Graduate Award from the Willson Center for Humanities and Arts. This award designation goes to the top-ranked recipient of the Willson Center’s Graduate Research Award. Using these funds, DuVall will travel to Paris over winter break to study the chateaus and works of art that will be discussed in her Master’s thesis.

Associate Professor Stefanie Jackson has been named one of 10 women from across the country who paint in the figurative realist style were named finalists for the Bennett Prize. The $50,000 Prize is the largest art award ever offered solely to women painters. The 10 were selected from among 647 entrants.
