Board of Visitors member Caroline Howell is holding an Opening Reception for her SCAD MFA Thesis Exhibition in Photography, Salvos.

The Opening Reception for Salvos is May 23, 2019 from 6 PM to 9 PM at Garcia | Willburn Gallery in Atlanta, Georgia. The exhibition is on view from May 21 to May 25, 2019. 

Two MFA candidates at the Lamar Dodd School of Art were among the 2019 Winners of ArtFields, an annual competition and exhibition in Lake City, South Carolina offering more than $140,000 in cash prizes. MFA Candidate Kim Truesdale won a Merit Award and incoming MFA Candidate Forrest Lawson was awarded the 2019 Grand Prize worth $50,000.

If you had seen Goodloe Yancey walking the hallways as a Lamar Dodd School of Art student in the early 2000s, you might have mistaken him as faculty. Yancey was in his fifties when he returned to the Lamar Dodd School of Art as a student. Yancey returned to academia after retiring from his family’s business. To him, he was returning to his first love. It was this love of art that led to the donation of space that held this year’s MFA Thesis Exhibition.

MFA Will Major’s Video Concepts & Practice Class produced a music video for the Athens band Kwazymoto, titled 'Death Gallop'. The video was directed by Will Major and created as a final project for the class he teaches at the Lamar Dodd School of Art . Frontman Ian Hemerlein’s sister, Lauren Hemerlein, had been a part of many of the visual aspects of Kwazymoto in the past.

Ph.D. Student in Art History Megan Neely was recently awarded a Summer Research Travel Grant for Doctoral Students. During the summer of 2019, Lind plans to use these funds to travel to both Spain and Italy to see works by Titian discussed in her dissertation

Ph.D. Student in Art Education Mallory Lind was recently awarded a Summer Research Travel Grant for Doctoral Students. During the summer of 2019, Lind plans on living and working within Bentonville, Arkansas, home of the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. She will use this funding to support her travel to rural geographies and populations in Northwest Arkansas, as well as support her complete immersion within the context of Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and the communities it reaches. 

The Lamar Dodd School of Art is pleased to announce the 2019 MFA Exhibition to be held in two venues in Athens, Georgia: the Georgia Museum of Art on the campus of the University of Georgia and the Deupree Building, located in downtown Athens at 458 E. Clayton Street.
