Congratulations to Associate Professor Lynn Sanders-Bustle and Assistant Professor James Enos- recent recipients of Willson Center for Arts and Humanities Public Impact Grants. The grants support faculty in the organization of campus conferences, exhibitions, and performances that showcase humanities and the arts research in a broad context.

Lizzie Ammon was one of 98 University of Georgia Student Athletes named to the 2020 Fall Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll for their outstanding performances in the classroom. Ammon is pursuing Art and AB Religion as a Double Major and currently plays as a defender on the soccer team.

Congratulations to Associate Professor of Art and Area Chair for Jewelry and Metals, Mary Hallam Pearse, who has been awarded a research fellowship from the Willson Center for Arts and Humanities. Pearse received a Willson Center Research Fellowship for the 2021-2022 academic year which will allow Pearse time dedicated to her creative practice. Specifically, Pearse will expand upon her current body of work entitled, “Following the Matter”.

The Lyndon House Arts Center and Lyndon House Arts Foundation are pleased to announce Hallie Ringle as the Guest Juror for the 46th Juried Exhibition. Hallie Ringle is the Hugh Kahul Curator of Contemporary Art at the Birmingham Museum of Art.

Like everyone in the world this year, UGA Cortona has felt the impact of COVID-19. As the severity of the virus began to increase during the early months of the pandemic, difficult decisions had to be made. In early March, after only a month of study in Italy, UGA students evacuated Cortona and returned to the United States. However, adversity fosters innovation and UGA Cortona students collaborated with faculty to develop ways that they would continue making art together ensuring artistic production and completion of academic credits.

Down & Dirty is an exhibition featuring sculptures and videos by New York-based artists, Jeanne Silverthorne and Bonnie Rychlak. Shown together for the first time in their decades’ long careers, the work spans from 1991 to 2020. Sharing in their respective affection for rubber and wax, the artists look to everyday objects for inspirations, objects that are deflated or are incongruously repurposed or converted to the “dark side” of the non-functional.

Students from Mechanical Engineering recently visited the Jewelry and Metalwork area to use the studio. Blake Bohannon, Mark Perry, Daniel Palmer, Ethan Schwartz in MCHE 3920 used the studio and walk viewers through the process of hand forging a knife below! 

 

Mac Balentine: Mood Ring Virtual Q+A: Artist Talk

Upcoming Burnaway Mood Ring Artist and MFA Candidate Mac Balentine along with artists Caleb Jamel Brown and MaDora Frey will join Burnaway in an hour-long Q+A and Artist Talk via Zoom.

Each artist will contextualize their individual iterations of Burnaway’s artist column Mood Ring while exploring intersections in their respective studio practices related to the use of ready-mades, spirituality and environmental installations.  

Moderated by Burnaway Programs Assistant, Emily Llamazales.
