2023-2024 Lamar Dodd School of Art scholarships deadline approaching

Don't delay! The deadline to apply for scholarships for the 2023-2024 academic year is Wednesday, February 1st. Lamar Dodd School of Art scholarships provide undergraduate and graduate students financial support for tuition, special projects, and study abroad experiences. Melissa Harshman presents work at the Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking

 
 

Printmaking Professor Melissa Harshman is showing work at the Georgia Tech Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking for the exhibition When Print Meets Paper. According to the museum's exhibition statement, paper has always been an integral component to the printed word and image, but in recent years it has come into its own as an expressive artistic medium.

Kara Walker: Prince McVeigh and the Turner Blasphemies

This work from 2021 is a 12-minute stop-motion animation that subverts and reframes the visual presentation of modern American myth-making. Walker’s cut-paper silhouettes reenact several of the most gruesome and infamous acts of white supremacist violence in the country’s recent history, including the 1995 Oklahoma City bombing by Timothy McVeigh and the 1998 murder of James Byrd Jr.

Certainty Still Pending

Certainty Still Pending showcases the work of the first-year MFA cohort at the Lamar Dodd School of Art. With exploration and risk leading this first year of research, students use a multiplicity of materials and processes to express their creative practice. Textiles, metal, clay, photography, painting and drawing all are employed as a means of investigating potential thesis directions. With no definitive proposals established, a consistent theme of community, uncertainty, and inquiry is prevalent throughout.
