Three School of Art faculty have been awarded various funding to support their research during 2017–2018 from the University’s Willson Center for Humanities & Arts, which promotes research and creativity in the humanities and arts.

Exhibition Opening Reception: Friday, January 27, 6-8pm

Undergraduate students will be the focus of this curated exhibition, organized by Candice Greathouse, director of Atlanta's Mint Gallery. Undergraduate students are invited to submit works of art for review to Gallery 101 from January 17–19 (10am–5pm). The exhibition will be on display in the Suite & Plaza Galleries with an opening on January 27, 6–8pm.

Dodd Alumnus Nic Walter Combines Art and Science in Museum Work

A big congratulations from the School of Art to recent alumnus Nic Walter, who joins the staff of MoMA PS1 in New York City this fall. In this position, Walter brings together his interest in art, research, and the social sciences, much as he did as an undergraduate student at The University of Georgia. Walter pursued interdisciplinary studies focsed on visual perception, graduating with a BA degree in Cognitive Sciences, a BS degree in Psychology, and a BA degree in Art History in December of 2015.

Dodd graduate student Kira Hegeman, a doctoral candidate in Art Education, has been selected by the UGA Graduate School to have her research spotlighted in a detailed profile on on their site.

Assistant Professor Benjamin Britton has a solo exhibition, The Incandescent Sub-Present, opening Thursday, December 1 from 7:00–9:00pm at Marcia Wood Gallery in midtown Atlanta. An artist talk will be held on Saturday, December 17 at 1:00 pm. The show is on view through December 23rd.

2010 Dodd graduate Rae Cook recently had an illustration featured in the Boston Globe. Cook received her BFA in Printmaking and Book Arts from UGA then went on to pursue her MFA in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art & Design.

The Columbia Museum of Art, SC, has purchased a major jumbo print from Professor Joe Norman, titled Strange Fruit, 1999. This large format lithographic triptych measures 42" by 90", and is from the series Strange Fruit.

Dodd faculty and Ideas for Creative Exploration (ICE) Artistic Director Mark Callahan has work included in Friends Only, an interactive exhibition at Gallery Vriend van Bavink in Amsterdam that opened this week and is on view through December 24. The exhibition includes more than forty international artists presenting the visual and performative aspects of contemporary virtual culture and its connection to the physical world.

The San Francisco Foundation announced this week that Dodd Assistant Professor of Photography Marni Shindelman and her collaborator, Nate Larson of MICA in Baltimore, are recipients of the 2016 John Gutmann Photography Fellowship. The annual award is given to emerging artists who exhibit professional accomplishment, serious artistic commitment, and financial need in the field of creative photography.
