This year's Cortona reunion exhibition, known as “La Mostra” (The Show) presents the work of Cortona faculty and students from 2019, the 50th year of UGA Cortona operations.

Please join us for a reunion and closing ceremony/reception at the Lamar Dodd School of Art.  Festivities will begin at 3:00 PM on January 18th, 2020 in auditorium S151 (on first floor of Dodd).

LGBTQ+ Film Screening of Moonlight

.

This will be a safe gathering space for any LGBTQ+ members and allies within the UGA and Athens Community and anyone who wants to see major accomplishments in queer film. Three films will be screened for the Spring 2020 semester, starting with Moonlight, and followed by Carol in March and Paris is Burning in April. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. Please feel free to bring anything for yourself or to share amongst the community.

Faculty Research Lecture: Dodd Interdisciplinary Fellows

Dodd Interdisciplinary Fellows Amy Bonnaffons, Leanne Purdum and Sara Black will present lectures focused on their ongoing research on January 15, from 12:20 PM to 1:20 PM.

The Lamar Dodd School of Art is a community of makers and scholars dedicated to pursuing advanced research in the fields of Art, Art History and Art Education. Several times each year, faculty share current research and work in progress with colleagues and students, affirming this shared sense of purpose. These lectures are open to the public.

Associate Professor Mark Abbe Awarded Gerda Henkel Stiftung Grant

The Aphrodite−Al-‘Uzzá Conservation Collaborative: Conserving and Presenting Newly Discovered Marble Sculpture at The Petra Museum, Jordan

 

Associate Professor of Art History Mark Abbe along with several colleagues was recently awarded the Gerda Henkel Stiftung Grant. The grant, valued at $28,000, will focus on the conservation of a pair of marble statues of Aphrodite and an international workshop with Jordanian archaeologists and conservators that will take place in May 2020.

Flora Anthony to Teach Ancient Egyptian Art in Spring 2020

The Lamar Dodd School of Art will welcome Professor Flora Anthony as a Visiting Assistant Professor to teach two undergraduate courses on ancient Egyptian art and architecture in Spring 2020. Anthony comes to UGA from her regular position as a Part-Time Assistant Professor of Art History from the School of Art and Design at Kennesaw State University.
