Gallery talk with current faculty members Ted Saupe and Sunkoo Yuh of ceramics, Jennifer Crenshaw in fabric design and Mary Hallam Pearse and Demi Thomloudis in Jewelry and Metalwork. These five faculty of the Lamar Dodd School of Art will discuss their work in the exhibition, Crafting History: Textiles, Metals and Ceramics at the University of Georgia. Ted Saupe is a ceramic artist who has focused on the vessel for most of his career. He is currently working on a series of hand constructed vessels. The textured surfaces are covered in black line paintings, referencing the history of ceramics and personal iconography.

SunKoo Yuh was born in Korea. He received his BFA degree from Hong Ik University, Seoul, and his MFA degree from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred, NY.  He has exhibited widely and has received numerous awards and honors for his work.

Jennifer Crenshaw is an admirer of all forms of textiles: screen printed fabrics, wovens, rugs, material manipulation and surface design. She is currently the area chair in the Fabric Design area in Lamar Dodd School of Art.

Demi Thomloudis received her MFA from San Diego State University after receiving a BFA from the Cleveland Institute of Art. She was a 2015 nominee for the American Craft Council Emerging Voices Award, and was a Society of North American Goldsmiths’ (SNAG) Emerging Artist featured at SOFA Chicago in 2014 with representation by Charon Kransen Arts.

Mary Hallam Pearse received her M.F.A in metal from SUNY New Paltz and a B.F.A in Jewelry+Metals from Kent State University. She has taught workshops at Anderson Ranch, 92nd Street Y, Kent State University, Humboldt State, East Carolina University and the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee.
