In a one-hour documentary scheduled for broadcast this December, WUGA-TV showcases a current exhibition on Russian art at the Georgia Museum of Art.

In the program, “Two Powerful Women: The Collectors of Russian Art,” WUGA-TV news anchor Alexia Ridley guides viewers through works of decorative art that were once commissioned for Catherine the Great’s use or given as gifts in her court.

New work in Sculpture

This fall ARST 3400 “Construction in Metal” was taught by Adjunct Instructor LeeAnn Mitchell with Jacob Brault (MFA Sculpture 2014), serving as the practicum graduate student. For their last project the students were challenged with “Site Specific-Site Sensitive”. Four of the students chose to collaborate in pairs and two students produced pieces on their own. Three of the four sculptures were placed at various locations on campus with one interior installation at the Thomas Street Art Annex.

MINT is proud to announce Live Amateurs, our 1st Annual Juried Exhibition to be hosted at MINT Gallery in Atlanta, GA in January 2014. Juried by artist Craig Drennen, Live Amateurs will showcase the work of 55 of the most exciting emerging artists currently living and working in the Southeast United States.

Kelly Guyotte, a doctoral candidate in the Lamar Dodd School of Art, explores synergistic learning through teaching in a Transdisciplinary Design Studio. “Portals” by Imi Hwangbo at Pavel Zoubok Gallery in NYC

"Portals," a solo show by faculty member Imi Hwangbo, will be exhibited at the Pavel Zoubok Gallery in New York City from February 13 - March 15, 2014.

Professor Hwangbo's work in constructed drawing is based on the ornamentation of Buddhist temples and Italian cathedrals.  Her artworks are made with translucent mylar that is colored, cut, and layered to become extravagantly refined, labor-intensive reliefs.

Nicole Akstein, MAEd student in Art Education, has designed and taught area youth using photography and writing as a means of exploring cultural identity. 

This exhibition is the culmination of her Applied Project and will be held in the Art Education Gallery Feb. 6-Feb. 16. An opening reception will be held on Thursday Feb 6 from 5:00-7:00 pm.
