Baci from Cortona

In 1970, the University of Georgia Studies Abroad Program in Cortona (UGA Cortona) was initiated. The vision and devoted efforts of founder and director, John D. Kehoe rooted UGA’s presence in Cortona. Together with city officials of Cortona, the relationship between UGA and Cortona has since transcended the moniker of “Study Abroad”, achieving a cultural, social, and human understanding between two cities and their people. The Baci from Cortona project comes to fruition, only thanks to 50 years of continuous friendship, inclusion, and cultural exchange.

Immortal Beloved

In this exhibition, Dodd MFA candidate Robby Toles reimagines the amateur Youtube vlog with a dedicated audience as a romantic production for a singular recipient, Immortal Beloved. Toles inhabits the role of influencer as he recites a 19th century love letter written by Ludwig van Beethoven. Simultaneously speaking to the viewer, his phone, and his own reflection, Toles flirts with his mirror image in a Narcissusian curse.

Codified Color

In this exhibition, Dodd graduate students Nick Abrami, Christina Foard, and Mary Gordon employ color as a means to examine personal histories. Gordon’s wood and wire installations recall childhood play and discovery. Foard’s paintings engage domesticity, imagining the noisy back-and-forth of familial conversations throughout the years. Abrami’s ceramic forms serve as markers, half-monuments, that memorialize specific times and places significant to the artist. Color coding acts as a way to create new symbols and references, allowing for various adjacencies between the three artists.

Kota Ezawa: Onement II

Kota Ezawa's work takes the form of animated videos, light boxes, slide projections, and prints.  He recreates iconic moments from the media, popular culture, and the history of photography by interpreting photographic images into drawings. Removing much of the visual information found in the source material, Ezawa's images become less real and more symbolic. His recent solo exhibitions include Offsite: Kota Ezawaat Vancouver Art Gallery in Vancouver, Canada, and The Curse of Dimensionality at Haines Gallery in San Francisco.
