A collection of works from the 1st year MFA students at the Lamar Dodd School of Art, Social Dissonance examines, through figurative and abstract visual representations, life in our current moment. Dissonance and disjunction have come to the fore of many people's lives since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic as habits, rituals, and the everyday are redefined. The artworks presented in this exhibition evoke the experience of dissonance, both as a positive and negative affect of our new daily lives.

The work of MFA candidate Victoria Dugger has recently garnered praise, with features in Burnaway and Flagpole magazines. Dugger's solo exhibition at the Lyndon House Arts Center, Mind the Body, centers around "reclaiming the female body, the Black body and the disabled body [as] a liberating act of defiance," according to Flagpole magazine.

MFA Candidate Luka Carter is featured in the Flywheel window display at the Lyndon House Arts Center from now until April 10. Flywheel is a window display at the Lyndon House Arts Center that captures snapshots of energy and objects suspended in place. Flywheel combines small works featuring a colorful mixture of different dimensions, colors, and mediums juxtaposed and layered. The artist composes sketches, studies, and found objects into a realized mood board of the different facets of his life that keep him moving and inspired.

John Douglas Powers’ recent sculptures squeal and squeak. Made of wooden slats, steel, and simple motors, the kinetic sculptures are self-evident, the materials are simple. Yet, when mechanized, they create what Powers describes as both a horrifying and seductive sound.

Join Jaime Bull and Brittainy Lauback as they invite art industry professionals into their Professional Practices class with Breakfast with Professionals. Lectures are open to students across the School of Art. 

These zoom based lectures are hosted by ARST4990: Professional Practices. Lectures will give students an opportunity to interact with professionals from various creative backgrounds as a way of exposing students to the variety of career possibilities relevant to their course of study.
