Dear Class of 2020: 

I know this may feel wrong. You probably had the expectation that we would all be lined up outside the PAC, sweating from the sunshine and polyester robes, while our loved ones desperately search for parking.  
 
This year is different. It has been a season of losses. Many of you, I know, have suffered, too. With so much unrest and uncertainty, it might seem frivolous to feel sad about losing your graduation ceremonies. But I don’t think so.

Derek Faust is an Academic Professional and the Art Studio Manager at the Lamar Dodd School of Art. During his time in self isolation, Faust has been using his home output lab to create NIH approved face shields to donate to health care professionals to help fight Covid-19. He has made over 100 face shields with his 3D printer, totaling over 350 hours of printing!

MFA candidate Annie Simpson’s work as a 2019 National Fellow (as part of Take Action Chapel Hill Collective) with Monument Lab will be in part of a Shaping the Past, a partnership between Monument Lab, the Goethe-Institut, and the Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung (German Federal Agency for Civic Education).
