Four faculty positions open at the Lamar Dodd School of Art

Join our vibrant community! The Lamar Dodd School of Art is seeking applicants for four faculty positions in sculpture and technologies, art history and women's studies, interior design, and graphic design. Faculty are provided numerous resources for advancing research, including a private studio or work space, computer, access to a wide array of tools and technology, and opportunities for travel and research funding.

The Athenaeum gallery in downtown Athens serves as an innovative and experimental center for contemporary art exhibitions and programming in the Southeastern United States, as well as a hub for faculty and students at the Lamar Dodd School of Art.

 

Open positions include:

  • Assistant Professor in Art History and Women’s Studies in tandem with the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences Institute for Women’s Studies
  • Assistant Professor in Sculpture with an emphasis in technologies
    • This position arose from a multi-year Presidential Hiring Initiative across the University of Georgia, which will hire 50 new faculty to develop the university's research focus on AI and Data Science.
  • Lecturer in Interior Design in tandem with the College of Family and Consumer Sciences
  • Academic Professional Associate in Graphic Design
    • This position will establish and oversee an outward-facing design studio in which students collaborate and engage with clients and community organizations in real-world projects and practical learning.

Housed within a tier one research university, the Lamar Dodd School of Art at the University of Georgia is a comprehensive, nationally-­ranked art school administering undergraduate and graduate programs in areas of studio art, design, art education, and art history. The Lamar Dodd School of Art has over 40 full-time faculty members administering undergraduate and graduate programs to over 1,300 students. Its vibrant community fosters a creative atmosphere for innovation.

Facilities

The Lamar Dodd School of Art's Main Art Building is housed in a spacious, eco-conscious building located on east campus in close proximity to other facilities dedicated to the arts on campus, including the Hugh Hodgson School of Music, the University of Georgia Performing Art Center and the Georgia Museum of Art. 

In addition to the Main Art Building, the Dodd operates out of four additional buildings on three corners of the University of Georgia's campus. These separate buildings include the Thomas Street Arts Complex, Broad Street Studios, and the Ceramics Building.

The Dodd’s facilities and equipment are state-of-the-art. Studio faculty and graduate students are generously accommodated with their own dedicated studios.

Galleries

The Dodd Galleries is dedicated to understanding and promoting contemporary art as a tool and catalyst for education. The Galleries consist of five exhibition spaces that act as laboratories and testing grounds for innovation located among our classrooms and studios. 

The Athenaeum is a non-collecting contemporary art gallery affiliated with the University of Georgia. It is an experimental educational resource for students, faculty, and for people in the Athens community at large.
