Dodd Undergraduate Admissions

You do not need a portfolio to start classes as an Art student at the University of Georgia. However, certain majors offered at the Lamar Dodd School of Art are “high demand,” meaning students must complete admission requirements (a portfolio review, progression preview, or other application process) and applicants are not guaranteed acceptance to these majors. 

Students can add the following Art degrees with no admission requirements:

DOES THE SCHOOL OF ART ACCEPT APPLICATIONS FOR SPRING ENROLLMENT?

No, the graduate programs at the Lamar Dodd School of Art only accept applications for fall enrollment.

ARE GRE SCORES REQUIRED FOR APPLICATION TO THE MFA PROGRAM?

No, the MFA degree does not require a GRE test score.

All other degrees do require the GRE.

HOW CAN I BE SURE MY MATERIALS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED?

Assistantships

Assistantship stipends are currently $15,073.89 per academic year for a master’s student and $16,017.66 per academic year for a doctoral student. The total award is equivalent to the annual stipend plus a tuition waiver of $4,246 (resident) or $12,950 (non-resident) per semester. Students pay just $25 per semester for tuition and fees of around $1,129 per semester.

Graduate Application Deadlines

Graduate applications to the MA, MFA, and PhD at the Lamar Dodd School of Art are due by January 1st.

Honors Program

Honors courses are offered in a variety of majors and provide the opportunity to design and pursue independent interdisciplinary majors, more intensive versions of required courses, and independent study under faculty supervision leading to an Honors thesis. In addition to individualized advising throughout their education, Honors students are provided with special support for graduate and professional school applications, as well as fellowship and scholarship competitions. Students may enter the Honors Program as freshmen or after completing one semester's enrollment.

Admissions

In order to be accepted to the Lamar Dodd School of Art, transfer students must apply through the Office of Undergraduate Admissions as an Intended Art major. Students must be accepted by the University of Georgia and the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences, of which the Lamar Dodd School of Art is a part.

The Lamar Dodd School of Art reserves the right to determine equivalent credit for any foundation courses being transferred via review of the portfolio and other appropriate materials.
