I work on the intersection of two (2) fields, art education and special education, which converges in the interdisciplinary field of critical disability studies and art education (DSAE). As someone who values both the qualitative and post-qualitative alignments in academic work, I am committed to a continuous exploration of scholarship in art education as it thrives in both the social sciences and humanities. In my doctoral studies, I have closely studied qualitative and postqualitative approaches to inquiry; I gravitate toward deconstruction, poststructuralist, postmodern, and posthuman thought. I have been deeply interested in the growing philosophical turn toward new materialism, which has now become increasingly relevant considering the rapidly escalating ecological and environmental crisis. Therefore, I am looking at how the philosophical work of new materialism, posthumanism, and the ontological turn operate in the context of art educational, arts-based and arts-informed inquiries that are producing fresh perspectives for critical disability studies. I believe that seeing what’s next for disability and art education entails a dynamic activity of actively participating in international gathering and conferences, exchanging insights, and joining hubs, reading groups, and collectives who are growing ideas together.
Biography

Amos is an art educator who finished his Bachelor of Fine Arts, Major in Painting, and Masters in Special from the University of the Philippines (UP). He is currently pursuing his doctoral degree in Art with an emphasis in Art Education at UGA as a Filipino Fulbright scholar. Amos intends to contribute to the growing field of critical disability studies and art education through teaching, developing courses, writing in publications, and participating in conferences/professional exchanges. His dissertation work involves a transdisciplinary approach of fusing science fiction with disability aesthetics and art education, where he aligns with emerging postqualitative approaches to educational, artistic, and philosophical inquiry.

In his academic, professional, and civic engagements, Amos has participated in fellowships and mobility grants to connect with fellow artists, educators and scholars globally. He was part of the British Council’s Connecting Through Cultures (CTC) Professional Mobility Grant UK-Southeast Asia in 2020, a presenter at the 13th SAMBHAV Arts Conference 2018 in India, a delegate at the 1st Arts and Disability International Conference (ADIC) in 2018, and a Fellow in the SIF Arts for Good Cultural Exchange Program 2019 in Singapore. He is also a member of several organizations such as the National Art Education Association (NAEA), the International Disability Studies, Arts and Education Network (iDSAE), the International Society for Education through Art (inSEA), the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association (IEATA), the American Society of Aesthetics (ASA), Teaching Artists - Asia, Expressive Arts (EXA) Philippines, Art Ventures and Advocacy Network (ArtVan), and the Rotary Club of Quezon City (RCQC). He likes to spend time doing volunteer work where he resides, upon which he has committed to working with community-based organizations both in the Philippines and in Athens (GA) by contributing creative and facilitation work.
