Crenshaw featured in Surface Design Journal

Assitant Professor Jennifer Crenshaw's digital print on fabric, The Garden and the Hare, was chosen for the Future Fabrication: Surface Design (SDA), Annual International Exhibition in Print, 40th Anniversary Winter Issue. This international call received over 250 entries worldwide. Artists were challenged to think about how innovations related to fiber and textile materials might shape our future. Future Fabrication curated works that are strong, distinctive, thoughtful and carefully constructed. Also taken into consideration were advancements in technological innovation, material exploration, as well as providing a glimpse into the future through concept and form. The Surface Design Journal is a quarterly print publication bringing the world of contemporary fiber arts to one's fingertips. International in scope, articles focus on contemporary textile and fiber-based art and design as realized through a breathtaking array of concepts, applications, processes, and materials. The journal strives to delve deeply into the latest trends, expand existing knowledge about techniques or applications, and inspire readers in the studio and beyond.

The Garden and the Hair, digital print on fabric, 9 x 3.5'

The Garden and the Hare is a digital print on fabric that is 9 by 3.5 feet. The construction of this work started as a screen print and collage on paper 27 x 12 inches. The collage was scanned into the computer at a high resolution and enlarged to its new size on a large format printer. The artwork is a visual adventure that allows the viewer to experience the landscape with a new perspective that encompasses traditional and contemporary motifs in a world of fantasy and escapism. The work provides an adventure that floats between reality and fantasy among drawings, botanical and illustrations. The subject matter is based on myths, religious stories and fables and questions right versus wrong within a hierarchal system that is brought together in a cohesive, global language.

Jennifer Crenshaw received her MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design in 2005. She is an assistant professor in fabric design where she serves as area chair.
