Associate Professor Marni Shindelman will be the Honored Educator at this year's Society for Photographic Education's Southeast Chapter conference. She will also be giving a presentation titled "It Gets Better". The conference will be held at the Penland School of Crafts, Bakersville, North Carolina from September 28 through 30, 2018.

SPE is the leading forum for fostering understanding of photography in all its forms and related media. Their members are fine art photographers, artists, educators, students, curators, critics, and historians. SPE is growing in bold, exciting ways in areas of K-12 education, community service and outreach, and expanding as an international non-profit organization to develop a broader understanding of how photography matters in the world. Through its programs and services—and through new initiatives that shift focus to more active ground—SPE seeks to promote a wider understanding of photography in all of its forms and to foster the development of its practice, teaching, scholarship, and critical analysis.

Shindelman is Associate Professor in Photography. She received her MFA from the University of Florida and a Bachelor of Philosophy in Interdisciplinary Studies from Miami University (Oxford, OH). She currently is a lecturer at the University of Georgia, Lamar Dodd School of Art. Prior to joining the Dodd faculty, she taught for ten years at the University of Rochester. 

Her work has been in exhibitions at Crystal Bridges Museum, solo exhibition Blue Sky in Portland, United Photo Industries in Brooklyn, the Contemporary Arts Center Las Vegas. Light Factory in Charlotte, the FotoFestiwal in Poland, the Houston Center for Photography, Baltimore Museum of Art, the Moscow International Biennale in Russia,and Conflux Festival in NYC. She has been a resident at the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation and Light Work in Syracuse, NY.
