Add to Calendar 2024-04-05 18:00:00 2024-04-05 20:00:00 “Liminal” | BFA Exit 1 Exhibition Opening Reception Join us in celebrating our graduating students receiving their BFA in Fine Arts!   Liminal is an exhibition in two parts by the Lamar Dodd School of Art graduating class of Spring 2024. The openings are on April 5th and 19th. This show will feature the art of 40 students to mark the final milestone in their studio art studies at the University of Georgia. Liminal was selected by students as a meaningful title to represent their body of work. According to Oxford Dictionaries, the word signifies one’s occupation at or on both sides of a boundary or threshold. The threshold occupied by the graduating students of the Lamar Dodd School of Art is one between formal education and freedom, rules and liberty, guidance and independence.  “My paintings explore the act of venturing into new experiences. Rather than focusing on the moment of experience, I’m investigating the moment before, the contemplative period immediately preceding a decision,” student artist Rome Wilson shares. Art often reflects the experiences of the artists, and is therefore, reflective of the times they live and have lived in. The opportunity to share meaningful work at such a crucial time in their development as artists beckons the representation of experiences and ideas that have shaped these students on their journeys. From painting to ceramics, sculpture, robotics and sound, there is little ground the show won’t cover. Viewers can expect an expansive variety of media showcased thanks to our many creative concentrations. Students’ work addresses topics of identity, community, conflict, and personal narratives.   We welcome you to join the Lamar Dodd School of Art graduating class of 2024 in marking the end of their studies. By creating bodies of work that conclude their time here at the University of Georgia, we will celebrate the “moment before” a lifetime of new experiences. To best accommodate showing artists and guests, there will be two separate group showings: opening on April 5th and April 19th.      Dodd Galleries LAMAR DODD SCHOOL OF ART doddcomm@uga.edu America/New_York public
