Instructor, Graphic Design + Illustration School of Visual Art and Design College of Arts and Sciences University of South Carolina

The School of Visual Art and Design Art Studio BFA Graphic Design and Illustration program seeks a colleague for a professional track Instructor position beginning August 16, 2022. This is a teaching position that collaborates with design faculty to teach foundational skills in graphic design, including support for an annual student portfolio review for student progression into the Graphic Design and Illustration (GD+I) BFA concentration. The position is a course load of 4/4 with a focus on pedagogy in design education; there are no service or research requirements. This is a 9-month non-tenure track appointment, renewable based on Dean’s approval, satisfactory performance, departmental needs, and the availability of funding.

We seek a designer and design educator to thoughtfully contribute to our Art Studio Foundations program. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic teacher and designer who is fluent in current design technology and deeply connected to pedagogical practices, discourses of historical and contemporary design and design methods. The successful candidate will be versed in historical and theoretical knowledge of graphic design and will offer students a framework through which these discourses and practices can be addressed. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to projects and coursework that supports the School of Visual Art and Design and the College of Arts and Sciences’ commitment to equity and inclusion, and that fosters an inclusive, diverse, and accessible experience for all students. This position also requires the candidate to collaborate successfully with faculty, adjunct Instructors and graduate students on curriculum matters. A terminal degree in the field is required (MFA, PhD).

All applicants should fill out an online application at USC Jobs: https://uscjobs.sc.edu/postings/115953 Candidates should be prepared to submit the following:

●  A letter of application
●  CV that includes URLs to relevant design artwork and/or design publication, and list of courses
taught

●  A statement describing your experience with Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, Accessibility,
and Justice (DEIBAJ) activities and explaining how that experience informs your teaching and

mentoring

●  Sample syllabi developed and taught by the candidate
●  Three to five samples of student design work (PDF format or URL link)
●  Three references familiar with your academic work history
Application review will begin March 15, 2022 and continue until the position is filled.
