Art Teacher | Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement

Job Summary

The Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement (AADM) is looking for an art teacher who is passionate about social justice and art therapy to lead our Saturday “Art for Justice” class at the Justice Center & Bookstore at the Georgia Square Mall. The class is open to anyone who is interested regardless of age and is intended for participants to unwind and express themselves creatively. It is free, though donations are highly encouraged, and all art supplies are provided by AADM.

As the teacher, you will be responsible for assisting participants achieve their creative visions and maintaining a safe, welcoming space for participants to speak about social justice issues.

Hours & Pay Rate

This position requires availability on Saturday afternoons from 12 pm to 5 pm. The position would begin as soon as possible. Shift will typically take place at the AADM Justice Center & Bookstore, located in the Georgia Square Mall.

This position would pay $15/hr and would be a great side hustle opportunity for anyone who wants to gain art therapy or teaching experience.

Job Duties

Art for Justice

  • Setting up tables, chairs, easels, etc. for art class
  • Provide support to art class participants, including but not limited to providing advice and drawing stencils for participants to fill in
  • Playing soothing and relaxing music on the Justice Center Smart TV
  • Cleaning up after art class (putting tables and chairs back, wiping down tables, cleaning art brushes, etc.)

Bookstore Sales & Administration

  • Provide customer service at AADM Justice Center & Bookstore
  • Use tablet and Paypal card reader to make sales and record sale information
  • Answer phone calls and communicate information with Director and Programs Manager

 

Experience & Skills Required

Excellent listening and communication skills, patience, and a passion for racial and social justice. Prior experience teaching art preferred.

Physical Requirements
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • May be required to stand for extended periods
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
