Alice Klima received her Ph.D. in the History of Art and Architecture Department at Brown University.  She teaches medieval architecture and visual culture, history of architecture and Slavic studies.  Her primary area of research focuses on medieval monastic architecture in the Czech Republic, which allows her to consider connections between medieval Central Europe and more traditionally studied regions such as France and England.  Dr. Klima is particularly passionate about teaching the history of architecture through diverse pedagogical approaches including collaborative projects and interactive technologies.  In additional to understanding the local and global context of the built environment, she is interested in the meaning of architecture as generated through daily use and function of space as well as through the process of building and patronage.  She is a native Czech speaker and has taught Czech at Brown University and at the UGA Department of Germanic and Slavic Languages. She has presented her work at international conferences including the Society of Architectural Historians and the International Medieval Congress at Leeds, UK and Kalamazoo, MI.
