Add to Calendar 2024-10-30 11:45:00 2024-10-30 20:30:00 Jaap Blonk Double Feature Dutch artist and sound poet Jaap Blonk visits UGA and Athens by way of the Lamar Dodd School of Art as part of his 40th tour to the United States. The events are free and open to the public.   Lecture / Performance by Jaap Blonk Wednesday, October 30th 11:45am at Dancz Hall Hugh Hodgson School of Music University of Georgia Jaap Blonk talks about his work, placing it in the context of its roots: sound poetry, improvisation and new music. He presents both historic sound poetry and his own work, in the form of: snippets of live performance, projection of texts and scores, sound examples, including his work with other musicians and / or with electronics, and video fragments. At several points question-and-answer sessions can be inserted.   Dr Voxoid's Next Move Evening Performance by Jaap Blonk With special guest improvisers Wednesday, October 30th 8:30pm at ATHICA 675 Pulaski St STE 1200, Athens, GA 30601 Dr Voxoid’s Next Move is Jaap Blonk's current voice and electronics performance. It is in constant development; new possibilities being added frequently. He prefers to choose a specific program on the spot and may even change it during a performance. It may contain: - sound poetry (his own works and possibly an occasional 'classic' from this tradition) - pieces in invented languages, for instance in "Onderlands" (the language of the Underlands, a variation on Netherlands) - phonetic etudes and processes - live soundscapes - improvisations, both for solo voice and in dialogue with his live electronics - and more...   Hugh Hodgson School of Music, Dancz Hall/ATHICA LAMAR DODD SCHOOL OF ART doddcomm@uga.edu America/New_York public
