Lectures are open to students across the School of Art.  These zoom based lectures are hosted by ARST4990: Professional Practices. Lectures will give students an opportunity to interact with professionals from various creative backgrounds as a way of exposing students to the variety of career possibilities relevant to their course of study. Register Here   Join in a conversation with Joel Kern about his journey from a Lamar Dodd School of Art design student to senior designer at a boutique firm in NYC.  Joel Kern is a senior designer at MTWTF. Joel's constructionist design approach takes shape through a range of media types — oscillating between the characteristics of typography, multi-materiality, and spatiality. This approach straddles the borders of graphic design, environmental design, and social sculpture. Joel has engaged in design collaborations with C-U-B-E: Experimental Design Lab, the campaign of Marcia Ranglin-Vassell, the Humanities Action Lab, the Center for Architecture, ArtBuilt to name a few. Joel received his MFA (Graphic Design) from Rhode Island School of Design and his BFA (Graphic Design) from the Lamar Dodd School of Art — University of Georgia. Joel is interested in the human relationship to public space and new ways of connecting communities. Joel is also the principle of common material, a design platform focused on collaboration to create unique objects and environments that add value to space. Through the exploration of familiar materials and new production technologies, common material contributes to both private and public spaces. common material is expected to launch in May of 2021.    Zoom LAMAR DODD SCHOOL OF ART doddcomm@uga.edu America/New_York public
