Graduate Funding and Research Support

  • A student sets up an exhibit

All full-time students in the MFA and PhD programs are fully funded, and students in our MA and MAED programs are awarded assistantships and tuition wavers on a competitive basis. Assistantships are renewed on an annual basis and a yearly assistantship application is required of all incoming and returning students. Funding is also available from various sources to offset the cost of materials and travel related to graduate research.

Graduate School Fellowships and Scholarships

Graduate Assistantships

Departmental Assistantships

Applicants to all Dodd Graduate programs will be automatically considered for departmental assistantships, which typically involve grading, teaching, working in the Art library, or assisting with the operations of the Dodd galleries. No separate application is required.

UGA Arts Collaborative

The University of Georgia offers Graduate School Assistantships to students entering programs in Art, Music, and Theatre and Film Studies following a highly qualified student’s nomination by their home department. These competitive, merit-based awards support collaborative research between the arts and other disciplines. Recipients of these assistantships work in a cohort of graduate students with the UGA Arts Collaborative, an interdisciplinary initiative for advanced research in the arts at UGA.

To be considered for a Graduate School Assistantship, applicants must provide a one-page statement to their home department’s Graduate Coordinator. The statement should describe the applicant’s current research interests and any previous training and experience in interdisciplinary or collaborative programs and environments. Nominees will be reviewed by an interdisciplinary selection committee.

Graduate School Fellowships and Scholarships

The Graduate School offers several fellowships and scholarships, which are described in detail on their website. Applicants must be nominated by their home department and routed through the Dodd Graduate Office.

Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs Assistantships

The Office of Vice President for Student Affairs (OVPSA) coordinates the selection process for graduate assistantships in Student Affairs and in offices of our campus partners (for 2019, Career Services and the Office of Service Learning will be selecting graduate students through this process as well). All students enrolled in or applying to a graduate degree program offered at the University of Georgia are eligible to apply for graduate assistantships through this process.
