Professor Imi Hwangbo and MFA candidate Sanaz Haghani will exhibit their work in Paper Routes: Women to Watch 2020, an exhibition of contemporary works on paper organized by the National Museum of Women in the Arts. The exhibition is curated by Michael Rooks of the High Museum, and will take place in January 2020 at MOCA GA.

Hwangbo and Haghani are two of five Georgia artists working in paper selected for the MOCA GA show. As regional semifinalists, they will be considered for the Women to Watch exhibition at the National Museum of Women in the Arts in June 2020.

Sanaz Haghani is an MFA candidate in Printmaking at the Lamar Dodd School of Art. Her works on paper are constructed to magnify the contradictions of the hijab in Iranian culture. In her work, Haghani examines how a culture and its identity can be understood from the status and circumstances of its women, such as the roles they play in the society, the rights they enjoy or don't, and, most pointedly, the dress codes to which they must adhere.

Professor Imi Hwangbo received her B.A. in Studio Art from Dartmouth College and an M.F.A. in Sculpture from Stanford University. Her work in constructed drawing are printed, hand-cut, and layered in such quantity that sculptural forms are created.  This series of work is based on the decorative patterns and imagery from Korean wrappings cloths, called pojagi.  These four-cornered cloths, which are used for wrapping, carrying, or covering objects, are often decorated with geometric patterns and floral motifs.
