UPDATE:

The Lamar Dodd School of Art is officially locked until further notice.  There is not a set time when campus and the School of Art will re-open. Students will be notified immediately if there is a future opportunity to come retrieve belongings. Students' materials that were not retrieved are being left safely in their place and will not be disturbed.

March 19, 2020

To Undergraduate Students:

I hope this finds you well, safe, and navigating our new temporary normal. Please know that I am thinking about all of you, and hoping you all stay safe and healthy. I look forward to the day when classes resume and that we’re all back at Dodd, creating, thinking, researching, and making.

Pick-up: In the coming days, you will have access to Dodd’s facilities in order to pick up your materials. We ask that you pick up enough of your things so that you have enough supplies to finish out your online spring semester. If you have a studio, we ask that you do not clean out your studio, but rather pick up enough supplies to last you for the remainder of the semester. Once we are all okayed to return to UGA and classes resume, you will have more access to pick up the remainder of your things.

As a reminder, the University System of Georgia has instated a new remote curriculum plan for the remainder of the spring 2020 semester. It is important that you have access to your UGA email, ensuring that you have the most up-to-date information about the online curriculum rollout from your professors.

In order to adhere to USG and Athens Clarke County rules for congregating, we cannot allow more than 10 students in the building at a time.

Please read this whole text, so that you understand the directions for reserving your time slot.

Sign-up Details: Students may sign-up for one time-slot, allowing for one per person. For students who are local and reside near Athens, we ask that you sign-up for Monday, March 23, 2020. This will allow for students who are packing up their things from the residential halls to collect their art materials on Friday, March 20, 2020 and Sunday, March 21, 2020.

Student Arrival Protocol:

  1. If you are sick or have a fever, please do not sign-up for a time slot. Please email your faculty and they will try to accommodate you to the best of their ability. Your health is more important to us at this time and we want you to focus on getting well.

  1. Please arrive on time, practicing social distancing, standing 6-8 feet apart. If you arrive early, we will have to ask you to go back to your car until your time slot is ready. This will prevent long lines and more than 10 individuals congregating in front of the school.

  1. The main and only point of entry for the Main Building of Dodd will be the 1st floor entrance by the loading dock. The doors that open up to Fabric and the Wood Shop will be open. Students may park across the street in lot E07. All other points of entry will be locked. Students who are picking up their belongings from the studios at Thomas, Ceramics, and Broad Street 2, will also enter near the loading dock areas.

  1. We will ask students to wash their hands upon arrival and leaving; for example, if you make multiple trips to your car, you will be asked to wash your hands each time. We will follow the CDC’s recommendation of washing hands in warm water for 20 seconds. It will prevent all of us from bringing in outside contaminates.

The retrieval dates are as follows:

Main Art Building (3rd floor entry)

  • Friday, March 20, 2020 (1:00 pm – 5:00 pm)

  • Sunday, March 22, 2020 (1:00 – 5:00 pm)

  • Monday, March 23, 2020 (9:00 am – 5:00 pm; preferred time for area residents)

Broad Street Studio 2

  • Friday, March 20, 2020 (1:00 pm – 5:00 pm)

  • Sunday, March 22, 2020 (1:00 – 5:00 pm)

  • Monday, March 23, 2020 (9:00 am – 5:00 pm; preferred time for area residents)

Thomas Street (Jewelry and Metals and Sculpture)

  • Friday, March 20, 2020 (1:00 pm – 5:00 pm)

  • Sunday, March 22, 2020 (1:00 – 5:00 pm)

  • Monday, March 23, 2020 (9:00 am – 5:00 pm; preferred time for area residents)

Ceramics

  • Friday, March 20, 2020 (1:00 pm – 5:00 pm)

No alternative pick-up dates are being offered.

I know these are trying and scary times. Please try to stay positive and know that we will all get through this. Eventually, COVID-19 will be over and pose less of a threat, giving us all the opportunity to resume our lives and spend time with our friends and loved ones.

Until then, be safe, practice good hygiene, and prepare for your online courses to start March 27 (you’ll hear more from your faculty, soon).
