Gallery Talk GMOA Thursday March 17th 4-5PM on Zoom. Jennifer Steinkamp masterfully uses digital animation to examine the boundaries between reality and illusion, nature and technology and the natural and artificial. Led by curator of American art Jeffrey Richmond-Moll, this Zoom panel discussion will feature Dr. Kim Coder, professor of tree biology and health care and University Hill Fellow for Distinguished Public Service & Outreach, Warnell School of Forestry and Natural Resources, University of Georgia; Christopher Cogan, instructor, Art X: Expanded Forms, Lamar Dodd School of Art, Lamar Dodd School of Art, UGA; and Dr. Alan Stewart, weather and climate psychologist and professor in the department of counseling and human development, Mary Frances Early College of Education, UGA. Together the panelists will discuss Steinkamp’s “Mike Kelley” — an animated windblown tree that cycles through the seasons — in relation to the fields of contemporary art, digital media, forest ecology and botany.

Christopher Cogan is a multi-media artist who lives and works in Athens GA. His films and installations have been presented in numerous exhibitions internationally. He has worked extensively in television and in the visual arts in France and America for over two decades. Recent shows include Galerie Maurits van der Laar: Den Haag (2022), La Friche Belle de Mai: Marseille France, Kranenburgh Museum: Bergen Holland, Middelheim Museum: Antwerp Belgium, Galerie Fons Welters: Amsterdam, “Xcentric” at CCCB: Barcelona, 1646 Gallery: Den Hague, 2011 Leeds Film Festival; and the Oberhausen Film Festival.
Cogan is represented by Light Cone, Paris and Canyon Cinema, San Francisco. He currently teaches experimental media in The Art X Department at the University of Georgia.
