Art librarian Lindsey Reynolds returned from Printed Matter's New York Art Book Fair last week conflicted about limiting her selection of art book purchases in a fair that boasts several floors of vendors. Nevertheless, she is happy to report an exciting variety of acquisitions for the UGA Art Library and the Athenaeum Lupin Reading Room!

Below, Reynolds shares a preview of the titles she purchased at the annual fair that celebrates "the history and future of artists’ book publishing." On her experience, she remarked, "Back for the first time since fall 2019, it was exciting to see all of the artists and publishers still going strong."

Here is a snapshot of some of the titles Lindsey brought home for the UGA Libraries.

Reynolds shares, "It was so hard to choose from all the treasures at the fair, but these cover a broad range of media and subjects, from New Zealand jeweler Lisa Walker to the historic ephemera of student protests to a photobook about Allensworth, California the first town in that state to be founded, financed, and governed exclusively by Black people." To delve deeper, check out Capricious Publishing, nan collymore, Perimeter Books, and Soberscove Press.

The books are off to be cataloged and will be available for checkout at the Art Library soon!

These three new artists’ recordworks are available now for your listening pleasure in the Lupin Reading Room at the Athenaeum. For further exploration, check out Sming Sming Books and FLEE Project.

About Printed Matter's NY Art Book Fair

Printed Matter’s 2022 NY Art Book Fair (NYABF) took place October 13–16, 2022 at 548 W 22nd St. Opening Night was on Thursday, October 13, from 6–9pm.

Printed Matter’s NY Art Book Fair returned to the historic location of the very first Fair! After three years apart, we were grateful to reunite in person and celebrate the history and future of artists’ book publishing together.

The 2022 NY Art Book Fair took place in Chelsea, just around the corner from Printed Matter’s bookstore, the NY Art Book Fair (NYABF) is the leading international event for the distribution of artists’ books. Exhibitors included a broad range of artists, collectives, publishers, institutions, galleries, antiquarian booksellers, and distributors. This year’s Fair featured many of the longstanding exhibitors and programs that have come to define this beloved event, while also offering new ways to discover artists’ books and explore the full breadth of the art publishing community.
