Alum Chris Wyrick was recently featured in Architectural Digest for his work on Lenny Kravitz’s Brazilian compound. Wyrick created murals for Kravitz’s former coffee plantation home that featured larger than life jungle foliage and contemporary geometric prints. Kravitz and Wyrick’s met while working together for a previous project for Kavitz Designs. While that project never come to fruition, Kravitz kept Wyrick in mind for future work and brought him on board to work on the guest house specifically.

According to the Architectural Digest Article, “Wyrick ended up staying for 30 days, painting 18 walls in total. ‘It was such an incredible environment. The way that Lenny works, he creates this very familial, organic place where you’re working with him, you’re living there, having meals together, talking, sharing; and so everyone was very involved in everything that was happening. It was wonderful to see,’ he says. One of the first projects he took on apart from the guesthouse was a true collaboration, born out of a spark of inspiration from Kravitz.”

Wyrick’s work on the home also evolved into a collaborative project with Kravitz in the home’s guest house. At one point while painting, Kravitz approached Wyrick with the idea to paint large triangles on the wall. Kravitz and Wyrick ended up painting until nearly 3 o’clock in the morning. Wyrick also completed murals in the master suite, media room, and great room.

Chris Wyrick earned his MFA from the Lamar Dodd School of Art and is a Los Angeles–based artist with experience painting large outdoor murals. His work can be found in Malibu and Los Angeles California. Recently he created the vibrant window murals featured in the exhibit "Red Shoes: Love, Politics and Dance" as well as the current exhibit "Upside-Down Propaganda: The Art of North Korean Defector Sun Mu" at the Wende Museum in Culver City, California.
