New Art Library in School of Art to Open in Spring

Lindsey Reynolds

The Lamar Dodd School of Art has secured resources toward the establishment of a new Art Library, scheduled to open this coming spring. This outpost of the UGA Libraries will be housed in the School of Art and will be an invaluable asset for students working in the fields of art, art history and art education. In conjunction with the new Dodd Library, the School of Art is pleased to announce that Lindsey Reynolds joins the faculty in the new position of Dodd Librarian. Isabelle Wallace, Associate Director for Graduate Studies, Research, and Recruitment & Associate Professor of Art History, says:

“The hire of Lindsey Reynolds is a reflection of the School of Art’s commitment to research in the study and practice of art. Reynold's expertise in the fields of art and library science makes her ideally suited for her position and its first major challenge: the transformation of the former Visual Resource Center into the new full-service Dodd Art Library.”

Through the hire of Reynolds and the expanded services offered by the Dodd Library, the School of Art strives to better serve its students from within the art school.

Reynolds comes to us from the Birmingham Museum of Art. There, she managed the day-to-day operations of the Museum’s library and archive as well as provided classroom instruction, library orientation, and collaborative courses through the Department of Art & Art History with the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where she was an affiliate faculty member. She has an American Library Association (ALA) accredited Masters of Library and Information Science (MLIS) degree from the University of Alabama. In addition, Reynolds is a UGA alumna who received her BFA in painting from the Dodd.

As Dodd Librarian, Reynolds is responsible for the development and management of the visual resource collection and a small and growing print and periodical collection. She will assist the school’s faculty and students in the use of materials and resources through instruction and outreach programs as well as reference and research support. Her interest in how libraries can be generative spaces for practicing artists as well as serving traditional research communities fits well with the School of Art's population.

As her initial challenge, Reynolds will manage the transformation of the existing Visual Resources Center (VRC) into the new Dodd Library, with its expanded collection and services. The Dodd Library will serve as an instructional and research support unit inside the School of Art. It will offer meeting space and resources while building a shared collection with the UGA Libraries. The new Dodd Library will also build and maintain an image database for use in instruction and research. Reynolds will support students and faculty in how to use these digital assets and consults on best practices.

A warm welcome to Reynolds from all of us at the Dodd! Please stop by and introduce yourself to her in the upcoming weeks.
