In a recent article, “The Best Art of 2017,” New York Times art critics Roberta Smith, Holland Cotter and Jason Farago each share their top ten art picks of the year. Among those selected by Cottter was the exhibition, Third Space: Shifting Conversations about Contemporary Art currently on view at the Birmingham Museum of Art, which includes a selection of artist books curated by Dodd Librarian Lindsey Reynolds, who also contributed an essay to the exhibition catalogue forthcoming in February 2018. 

Third Space is on view through January 2019 and is the first large exhibition of contemporary art from the Museum’s collection, featuring over 100 works of art in a variety of mediums, including painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, and video. The exhibition creates connections between the American South and other parts of the world using contemporary art. Wassan Al-Khudhairi, curator of Third Space and now chief curator at the Contemporary Art Museum in St. Louis, will jury the 43rd Juried Exhibition at the Lyndon House in Athens, GA this January.

Reynolds received her MLIS degree from the University of Alabama and her BFA from the Lamar Dodd School of Art. Before joining the Dodd faculty, Reynolds worked at the Birmingham Museum of Art in Alabama, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, and with the New York Art Resources Consortium, which consists of the research libraries of three leading art museums in New York City: the Brooklyn Museum, the Frick Collection, and the Museum of Modern Art.
