Alys Barrow, a second-year undergraduate student with an emphasis in Photography at the Lamar Dodd School of Art, is one of six University of Georgia students selected as an inaugural Cora Nunnally Miller Fine Arts Scholar in the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences. The scholarship recognizes exceptional artistic talent, fosters interdisciplinary collaborations in the arts, and promotes the arts on the UGA campus.

Barrow writes: I take pride in my work, but it is because I am able to take pride in my friends and fellow artists. There is an aspect of vulnerability that comes with the subject/photographer relationship, which is something that I treasure and protect with great voracity. There is beauty in the trust between the two parties, which ultimately conveys itself in my final images. It can come in the form of a theatrical performance, or the collaboration of a constructed image. In any situation, the subject is allowing the photographer to see them, to regard them, and to keep their image; it becomes a living conversation of experiences, and in sharing my work, I hope to invite everyone to take part in the exchange. 

Barrow grew up in Columbus, Georgia, where her artistic inclinations were nurtured through productions at the Springer Opera House. After studying acting at a festival in England, Barrow found her passion to use photography to express an artistic viewpoint.
