BFA Photography Alum Meghann Riepenhoff to have Solo Exhibition and Lecture in Atlanta

Meghann Riepenhoff (BFA 2003) will have a solo exhibition at Jackson Fine Art in Atlanta. Meghann Riepenhoff: Imprint will open from September 28 and run through December 22.

Riepenhoff will also be giving a lecture on her work at the High Museum on September 27 at 7:00 pm. The event coincides with the release of her debut monograph, Ecotone + Littoral Drift (Radius Books).

Of the exhbition, Jackson Fine Art writes:

Riepenhoff an Atlanta native, creates dynamic camera-less cyanotypes by allowing her materials to organically interact with the forces of nature she manipulates. The elements that she employs in the process — waves, surface water, wind, and sediment — leave physical inscriptions through their direct contact with photographic paper. For Imprint, her first solo exhibition in the south, Riepenhoff has  returned  to  the  region  to  make  prints  in  landscapes  where  she  spent  the  first  half  of  her  life  and  revisits regularly. Photographs  made  at  the Chattahoochee  River  or  in  North  Georgia  Lakes are stained by Georgia Red Clay; rain  drops  from  summer  storms  mark  prints  from  Hilton  Head  Island’s  shoreline.  These  places  have  shaped  Riepenhoff’s  experience,  as  they  have  shaped  works  in  the  exhibition —according to Riepenhoff, “through questioning  our  complex  personal,  anthropogenic,  and  interdependent  relationships  with  our  environment.”

Riepenhoff is a 2018 Guggenheim Fellow born in Atlanta and now based in Bainbridge Island, WA and San Francisco, CA. She received a BFA in Photography from the University of Georgia and a MFA from San Francisco Art Institute where she is a part of the visiting faculty. Riepenhoff has exhibited her work internationally, and in 2014, Charlotte Cotton awarded her first place in the Camera Club of New York’s Annual Juried Competition. Riepenhoff was also a nominee for the Baum Award, received Honorable Mention for the Clarence John Laughlin Award, and was selected as a Top 50 Photographer by Critical Mass. In 2015, she was awarded a Fleishhacker Foundation grant for her solo exhibition at SF Camerawork in San Francisco, CA. Her work has been published in The New York Times, Time Magazine LightBox, Photograph Magazine, San Francisco Chronicle, Harper’s Magazine, Aperture PhotoBook Review, Oprah Magazine, and BOMB Magazine. Her work is in many museum collections around the country.
